Detecting Autism on one year old Babies

Autism also known as a highly complex developmental disorder in children, usually the symptoms shown before the age of children entering three years old. In fact, now been made a screening method for babies aged one year.

Screening methods are developed by pediatricians team in San Diego, United States and has been tested on more than 10,479 babies ages one year old. The babies are a patient of 137 pediatricians. Using a simple questionnaire which can be completed in five years, parents or caregivers of children were asked to answer about the behavior of children who has covered existence of voice, eye contact, gestures, words, recognition object and other forms of communication.

Babies that considered not passes that test showed autism symptoms will be evaluated at San Diego Autism Center for Excellence. The evaluation schedule is every six months to three year olds. From 346 children referred, 184 children followed up evaluation of at least two sessions.

Generally, such screening methods has a predictive value reaches 75 percent. From the evaluation conducted, 32 children diagnosed with autism, nine children suffering from developmental delays, 56 diagnosed with speech delay and 36 children diagnosed with other types of developmental delays.

Meantime the children who are diagnosed with autism, starting therapy at the age of 19 months actually very early compared to other children. Often the parents just bring the child to the doctor when the child was three years old and that means was too late.
