Late to talk is not triggering behavioral disorders

Parents must pay attention to child development, however parents should not panic and have own assumptions if children aged two years not able to speak. While there was no signs of other development delays, parents can waits while continuing to stimulate the speak ability until the child reach five years old.

This was revealed by Andrew Whitehouse, a child psychologist from University of Western Australia. In research published in the journal Pediatrics, he mentioned that child who are late to talk at age two years is likely to have emotional and behavioral problems. But it is mainly due to a sense of frustration about not be able to communicate properly.

After the age of 5-17 years old, majority of children who had delayed talking has the same behavior as well as children who had rapid talking development at age two years. Nevertheless the results of this study show that delays in speaking is settled until school age, they also in risk of having psychiatric disorders.

Once a child who late talking already able to catch up in communication, emotional and behavioral problems was disappeared. The emergence of delayed talking was not factor of anxiety in children behavioral. The parents still advised to stimulate language in children. That means parents have to spend more time with the child to communicate, play together, read stories, and interacting appropriate to the child level.
