Cognitive Development of Children Ages 1-2 Years

When born, the child's brain weight of about 27% by weight of the adult brain. At age 2, brain weight of children has reached 90% of the adult brain weight (about 1200 grams). This shows that at this age, is very rapid period of brain development. This growth gives implications for the intelligence of children. At the age of 1-2 years, children have a great curiosity. At this age, children develop a sense of curiosity through the following points:

Learn by observation
Starting at age 13 months, children have started to observe the things around them. Many "miracle" around it encourages a child's curiosity. Children then do the things that are often considered to play, when the child is figuring out what will happen later after the children do things as satisfying his curiosity. At the age of 19 months, children are able to observe the environment in more detail and realize things are not supposed to happen based on the experience.

Imitating parents
Children learn from the surrounding environment. Around the age of 17 months, children have started to develop the ability to imitate observed. It is imitated are the things that are generally parents do. At the age of 19 months, the child can imitates a variety of parenting behaviors.

Learn to concentration.
At the age of 14 months, thought the child was directed towards an object. It can be seen in the persistence of children with one toy or one situation. Children's ability to concentrate depends on the circumstances or the appeal of things around him. Children's ability to concentrate on this age is about ten minutes.

Understanding the limbs
At the age of about 15 months, the child can be taught to pronounce the words. Children will feeling very happy if the parents teach the words about the name their limbs while shows their limbs.

Understanding the shape, depth, space and times
In year two, the child already able to understand things. Through his observations, children discover the shape, high or low objects (depth) and the opportunity to distinguish based on place (space) and time. This understanding began to appear at the age of 18-24 months.

Begin to imagine
The ability of imagining or forming abstract imagery developed from the age of 18 months. Children are beginning to show the ability to thought things which are not seen. Able to anticipatory thinking. This ability is began to appear at children aged 21-23 months. Children are not just imagining things that did not exist in front, furthermore they can begin to expect the impact it will have on the things they do.

Understanding sentences that consist of several words
At the age of 12-17 months, children are able to understand sentences that consist of a series of few words. In addition, children also can develop communication using body movements, crying and facial expressions. At the age of 13 months, children have started to say simple words like "mama" or "daddy". At the age of 17 months, most children are able to say the pronoun themselves then stringing with a few words and express simple messages like: "I want milk".

Quickly grasp new words
At the age of 18-23 months, children experience rapid growth in pronouncing words. Children's vocabulary at this age reach 50 words. In addition, children have started to realize that every object has a name so that it encourages children to launch language skills and learn new words faster.
